HRXVC26U DVD/VCR Combo Unit with Progressive scan ( Black )
Read More Product Details…

With the HR-XVC26U combination DVD player and VCR, you can enjoy cutting-edge DVDs alongside your existing library of videocassettes–and you won’t have to continually switch inputs on your TV whenever you switch viewing formats from the combo unit. The HR-XVC26U provides a DVD and a VHS signal through both the composite-video and progressive-scan component-video outputs. You’ll also enjoy MP3 music, JPEG image CD, and video-mode DVD-RW and DVD-R media playback, as well as hi-fi VHS performance. And, you can be taping something while you’re watching a DVD.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you’re merely thinking of “someday,” the HR-XVC26U stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Composite-video and DVD-only S-video outputs accommodate most standard (non-HD) TVs.

Exclusive VCR features include one-month, eight-event programming, index search, auto clock setting, and auto tracking. The unit offers an RF input for cable-box signals and an RF output for use with older TVs that lack composite-video inputs. S-VHS quasi playback lets you watch, in regular VHS resolution, tapes recorded in Super-VHS, normally only compatible with more expensive S-VHS machines. A set of front-panel audio/video inputs accommodates a camcorder or gaming console.

A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals for DVD can be routed through the player’s digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.

What’s in the Box
DVD/VCR combo unit, a multibrand, full-function remote control, remote batteries, a composite-video/stereo analog-audio interconnect, a user’s manual, and warranty information.

#Interesting comment about this product.
I was getting frustrated. I had bought three DVD players from major brand names. All of which would freeze up about an hour into a semi-dirty DVD. Well, with three kids in the house all under 7 years old, my DVD’s do occassionally get a little dirty. But not scratched, not even that mucked up. I tried all things, dishwashing soap with warm water, “discwasher”, etc. It helped a bit, but I thought I’d find a player that advertises that it can play less-than-perfect DVD’s. I couldn’t find any salesman who would vouch for one player over another in that aspect. Then my Sony VCR took a dump. I thought, “Here’s an opportunity to save some space”. So without a particular DVD player in mind, and needing a new VCR I went for a combo. I chose JVC because I had had their stuff before and it seemed tough. I needed tough. Plus I could always return it if it was that bad. To my surprise this JVC combo has been better than tough, it has been near perfect. Only once so far (two months) has the DVD playback stuttered and it recovered itself after a minute and kept playing. The VHS tape playback is best I’ve ever seen. It makes old tapes look noticably betterr. I don’t how they do “progressive scan” for VHS but it works so well, I am buying another one to rip my tapes into my PC. It’s inexpensive enough. I recommend this unit completely save for the remote, which is a bit ugly and causes my eyes to twitter in overstimulation looking for the one button I want.

#Interesting comment about this product.
Ease of use – Easy, hook up and go. One thing I like is that the remote control uses a switch rather than logic buttoms so you know from across the room whether you are trying to control a vcr or dvd. The operations of the rest of the remote controls could be clearer. A big problem I have is that the remote has a LOT of plain buttons that all look they same. In a dim room I usually hand to to somebody else to fast-forward, etc.
Features – exactly what is advertised and expected. No frills.
Picture Quality – Haven’t used it on a discriminating system but it looks ok to me.
Sound Quality – Haven’t used it on a discriminating system but it sounds ok to me.
I use my machines as basic players. Seems like I remember the manual on this one being a little vague.
One thing I like is that the remote control uses a switch rather than logic buttoms so you know from across the room whether you are trying to control a vcr or dvd. I will probably buy another one.
Bottom line is I think I’ll buy another one.

Panasonic PV-D4762 DVD-VCR Combo

Panasonic PV-D4762 DVD-VCR Combo

The PV-D4762 Double Feature combination DVD player and four-head, Hi-Fi stereo VCR lets users record a TV program and watch a DVD at the same time. It also plays DVD-R, CDs or home recorded CD-R, CD-RW2, or MP3 recordings. The PV-DV4762 adds progressive scan capability. When connected to a digital-ready television through the component jacks, progressive scan can deliver the very sharpest picture the DVD format has to offer. Other step-up features include Commercial Advance and Movie Advance. Commercial Advance marks the beginning and end of each commercial segment while the VCR is recording. During playback, the system detects the marks and automatically skips over the commercials.Adding to the unit’s versatility is a wide array of audio/video jacks, namely: discreet component video output, S-Video output, dual RCA A/V outputs, optical digital output and RF in/out. In short, all the connections you need whether you’re doing your viewing on a 5-year old mono TV or a big-screen digital set hooked up to a surround sound system. The deck also includes Dolby Digital and dts outputs for digital 5.1-channel surround.
Read More Product Details…

Panasonic’s PV-D4762 is not only incredibly convenient, but also one of the first combi models to offer a progressive-scan video output, providing top-of-the-line DVD picture quality when used with a high-definition or HD-ready TV.

Video Features
Progressive scanning displays all 480 video lines in one pass, rendering horizontal image lines sequentially rather than interlacing the even lines with the odd. This equals high vertical resolution and flicker-free, high-density images–reason enough to make the HDTV leap. The included S-video and composite-video outputs work just fine with most older TVs. The PV-D4762 plays standard DVD-Video discs and most DVD-Rs (recordable DVDs), from which you can easily make VHS copies of weddings, birthdays, etc. For the VCR, the Commercial Advance lets you hop past three minutes of commercials in about 25 seconds, while Movie Advance scans the beginning of a rental video to skip the previews. The unit’s four-head design ensures smooth slow-motion (in forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images.

Audio Features
The PV-D4762 is compatible with standard CDs, audio CD-Rs and CD-RWs, and discs encoded with MP3 audio files. (CD-R/CD-RW playability may vary depending on contents and discs.) It can simulate surround-sound effects using only two speakers, so you’ll still be able to appreciate a sense of surround sound even if you don’t have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup.

Connections
In the video realm, you get standard composite-video, S-video, and premium component-video outputs for the DVD player (one set each), as well as two sets of composite-video inputs (one on the front and one at the rear) and one RF (cable-type) input and output for the VCR. There’s also an optical digital-audio output to feed a surround-sound signal to a Dolby Digital-decoding or DTS-decoding AV receiver. It has stereo RCA analog audio outputs as well. In addition, an illuminated multibrand universal Light Tower remote control is included.

#Interesting comment about this product.
This DVD-VCR Combo is a replacement for a similar device that I bought new in 2001 and was happy for five years before I took the service – unfortunately, the dealer has ceased suddenly and have never been able to recover the drive. I was looking for a similar device, but since most manufacturers now have the VCR tuner from them (in this unit are omitted), a critical factor if you do not have cable. This device also includes recording and playbackthree-speed, SP / LP / EP, while most currently available VCR, inexplicably omits LP, which combines superior image quality with a sufficiently long time (4 hours). Recording time. Luckily I managed to find this equipment in ships "as new condition.

Initial setup is a bit 'complicated, but the manual is clear and leads the user through appropriate steps. Probably there are too many options for the average user, but you really need to use only the basic functions. More importantly, image quality when playing tapes and DVDs is excellent. As manufacturers begin to set, VCR, as these units are hard to find. Strongly recommended if you find one.

Sony SLV-D370P DVD/VCR Progressive Scan Combo Player

Sony SLV-D370P DVD/VCR Progressive Scan Combo Player

Sony’s SLV-D370P simplifies your home theater by combining a VCR and DVD player, all in one component. Now you can enjoy your VHS tapes and DVD library using the same player. It’s a full-featured VCR allowing you to record your favorite shows, while watching a DVD. Auto clock and channel set-up makes recording of your favorite TV shows easy. Pop-in the VHS tape, press record, and voila. The front A/V inputs add convenience when you simply want to quickly view those newly recorded videos from your camcorder.
Read More Product Details…

Slim down your home theater cabinet with the Sony SLV-D370P DVD/VCR combo player, which features component video ouput for vividly colorful progressive scan video. It plays just about any video disc format out there, from DVD-Video to DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW. The player also handles audio CD, VCD/SVCD, and CD-R/RW discs filled with MP3 music or JPEG image files. The front A/V inputs add convenience when you simply want to quickly view those newly recorded videos from your camcorder.

Its full-featured, hi-fi stereo VCR allows you to record your favorite shows while watching a DVD. Auto clock and channel set-up makes recording of your favorite TV shows easy–just pop in a VHS tape and press record. Other VCR features include 8-event timer recording, two record settings (SP/EP), quasi S-VHS playback, four 19-micron video heads (for optimized EP recording), and flash rewind.

Sony’s Precision Cinema Progressive technology uses a 12-bit video DAC (digital-to-analog converter) with high-bandwidth, 108 MHz processing to detect image changes at the pixel level, rather than at the level of whole scan lines. That makes this player’s picture more faithful to the source–whether film or video–because it uses separate, optimized algorithms to handle different pixel behaviors. Separate algorithms are also used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts. The Precision Drive 3 feature provides a mechanism for reading DVDs that are in less than perfect condition, eliminating errors in playback due to imperfect, scratched, or warped discs.

The SLV-D370P offers a digital optical audio ouput, enabling Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound capability. Other connection options include:

  • Component video (YPbPr; 480i/480p): 1 Out
  • Composite AV (RCA): 2 Out; 2 In (1 front, 1 rear)
  • S-Video: 1 In
  • RF: 2

You’ll get great picture reproduction from DVDs using the three-jack component video (Y/Pb/Pr) output, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. Component video output is available only for DVD playback.

What’s in the Box
DVD/VCR combo player, remote control (with batteries), composite A/V cable, printed operating instructions, warranty information

And then when you want to peruse your latest pictures, just pop in a JPEG disc and watch them on your home television.

It features a 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR offering the excitement of true, high fidelity stereo sound with a dynamic range of more than 90 decibels. And, with two of its four video head dedicated to recording and playback in the SP speed, and the other two for SLP, you’ll enjoy outstanding picture quality in both speeds. Multiple DVD Viewing Options offer an impressive memory capacity of a DVD disc so that a movie may be recorded in as many as eight different languages, or contain subtitles for up to 32 languages. The format provides a film’s director with the ability to include multiple camera angles for the same scenes, or to include a series of different endings.

Easy to set up and even easier to operate, the remarkable GoVideo DV2140 gives you a full-featured DVD and CD player to handle your movies and music–including MP3 and WMA files stored on CD-R or CD-RW–and a built-in 4-head, hi-fi stereo VCR to play your existing library of videocassettes and to record new programs.

Front-panel audio/video inputs accommodate camcorder and gaming hookups, while JPEG picture CD playback lets you watch slideshows of your digital photos. The unit’s compatibility with recordable DVDs (DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW) makes it a cinch to copy your homemade discs to tape. The combo unit even lets you watch a DVD or listen to a CD while recording a TV show, and you can always take advantage of EZ Play, which bypasses DVD menus to take you right to the start of your movies.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you’re merely thinking of “someday,” the DV2140’s DVD section stands ready to deliver the full potential of your commercial DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Even without an HD-ready set, the component-video outputs can be set to output interlaced video, in which they help minimize line scan and digital artifacts on compatible televisions.

Composite- and S-video outputs bring DVD compatibility with nearly any television, and this unit makes hookup with older sets even easier by passing both DVD and VHS video and audio signals through its coaxial RF output–perfect for use with older TVs lacking separate audio and video inputs.

In the audio realm, 2 sets of left/right RCA analog-audio outputs (1 each for the DVD player and the VCR) channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. For enveloping home-theater audio from DVDs, both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player’s coaxial digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. If you don’t have a surround receiver or 6-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: 3D Surround simulates surround sound through 2 speakers (even the stereo speakers on your TV).

This model’s 4-head VCR design ensures smooth slow-motion play (forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images, while hi-fi sound records and plays back stereo audio tracks. If you route the stereo output to an AV receiver, you can even enjoy four-channel (left, center, right, and monaural surround) Dolby Pro Logic mixes from TV and Dolby-encoded videocassettes. Convenient features include 8-event, 1-year programming, and auto clock and channel set.

Magnavox ZV457MG9 Dual Deck DVD/VCR Recorder

Magnavox ZV457MG9 Dual Deck DVD/VCR Recorder

Dual Deck recorder with ATSC digital tuner. Record home movies on to DVD from Tape. HDMI up conversion out put for HD type picture quality on DVD

Although I’ve only had the Magnavox Dual Deck DVD/VCR Recorder for a short time, I am impressed with the quality of this recorder. It takes a bit to understand the instructions – some procedures don’t apply to every setup. Sometimes it takes a little trial and error but once you get it down, it’s easy to use – both with direct recording and timer recording. Would suggest you set up the clock manually, otherwise it may not work properly in the timer mode – all depends on whether you have a local PBS station signal. I have yet to try the DVD to VCR direct recording and vice versa yet, but am looking forward to reducing the number of VSH tapes I have – some of which have already deteriorated. My suggestion is to be persistent and try different ways to record – it won’t take long to get proficient at it. The play quality has been great. I would recommend this product, but if you are new to using one – find a friend who can help you through it. Be sure to “read” the instructions carefully – it will help.
